Thumbs Up: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is the first Nars foundation I’ve tried. I have used the tinted moisturizer(I like it) and I’ve used the Radiant Creamy Concealer(I like it) but I can’t compare it to Sheer Matte or Sheer Glow. FOTD: A Bold Summer Look Re-creation

FULL DISCLOSURE: Nars 413 BLKR Illuminator and Lost Coast Eyeshadow Duo were gifted to me.

I was hanging around on Youtube and decided search for some Nars videos and ran across this one:

In this video head artist, Cindy Rodriguez, used some of the products from Nars Cosmetics’ Summer 2014 Adult Swim Collection to create a look around a bold lip. I decided to recreate the look with a few tweaks since I don’t own everything from Adult Swim.

Bold Lip Nars Summer 2014 Re-creation
Products I used for this look are below.

I feel good about it. Obviously the artist in the video didn’t wing out the eye. I did that just to add more drama because my eye looked a bit plain without it. I’ll be getting some swatches up of Lost Coast and 413 BLKR soon so you can see them upclose. I’ll also put what I used below. Let me know what you think.

Are you big on recreating the looks you see or do you just do what you want?

Products used:

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation – 177

Cover Girl Queen Collection Bronzer – Ebony Bronze

NARS Blush – Desire

NARS Iluminator – 413 BLKR

Started From A Sample Now We’re Here: NARS Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with samples. On the one hand they’re great for trying out products and if they suck you don’t have to live with buyer’s remorse. On the other hand if you love it you have to deal with the urge to run out and buy it. I ended up having to deal with the latter scenario because I was on a no-buy when I began to use my NARS Cosmetics Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer.

The Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer was a 100 point perk from Sephora I received in March when I ordered a couple of Nars Matte Multiples from Sephora.com. The full size is $34 dollars so it’s not cheap but I think it’s worth it. Obviously, I didn’t use it immediately because here it is nearly July and I’m just now talking about it. That’s another thing about samples, sometimes they’re easy to forget and they languish somewhere never to be seen again. Luckily, that didn’t happen with this primer.

“NARS exclusive Light Reflecting Complex captures light, instantly optimizing its reflection. Everyday dullness and signs of fatigue fade as skin is infused with vitality. Advanced Optical Technology optically elevates skin’s natural contours, adding shape and definition. Skin looks luminous all day, in any source of light. Light Optimizing Primer glides right on and absorbs instantly, smoothing and evening skin’s surface. ” (from Sephora.com)

The various times I wore this primer I found myself not needing to blot as much as I did with other primers. I think my skin is on the extreme end of oily and it’s pretty annoying.  I kept checking my face wondering if I was truly seeing what I was seeing, a face that wasn’t an oil slick, and I wasn’t mistaken.

Since this is billed as a light optimizing primer I wasn’t surprised to see some glitter on my face after rubbing the primer into my skin. The E.L.F. Radiant Glow primer(reviewed here) gave a similar finish, but the amount of Nars primer I squeezed it out was easier to control so I didn’t experience glitter overkill.  Another thing about the Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer vs the Radiant Glow is that this one readily absorbed into my skin while the e.l.f. one just sat on my face.

With a $34 price tag I know this isn’t for everyone, but I think this primer is going to replace the other ones I’ve been using. Sometimes a girl’s gotta splurge on the stuff that works.

I couldn’t resist. LOL

Have you tried the Nars Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer?

Nars Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer is available at Sephora, department stores, Nars Boutiques, and narscosmetics.com.

New and Improved! Nars Lip Gloss – Stella

Full Disclosure: Nars Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Stella was sent to me. I was not obligated to review. All opinions/reviews about the product are my own.

I was lucky enough to be a sent a few Nars Cosmetics products last week. One of them happened to be their reformulated lip gloss in Stella. This is my first experience with the new formula and I’m pretty impressed.

Nars Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Stella $26

One of the complaints about the old formula was its thickness and stickiness. It wasn’t ever anything that kept me from purchasing, but the new formula doesn’t have those problems. When I remove the wand from the gloss I can tell that there isn’t any resistance. With the old glosses that’s not the case.

Stella is described as a muted raspberry

It felt more moisturizing than the old formula. I tend to purse my lips or rub them together and I could tell that this gloss was much lighter than the old gloss. My lips moved past each other easily. I didn’t feel any tackiness that I’ve come to expect with most lip glosses.

The packaging has changed as well. The old tube was somewhat frosted which made the color look hazy while the new tube is clear so there’s no doubt about what color you’re purchasing.

Nars Cosmetics Lip Gloss Packaging Comparison
I’m really not sure which packaging I like the best. What do you think?

A downside to the new formula and packaging is that you’re getting less product. The original formula’s net weight varied between .24oz and .28oz and this new formula is .18oz. If you’re big on these lip glosses you might feel cheated because you losing around 25% of the product but still paying the original price of $26.

I still think the glosses are worth it, especially if you’re looking for something to correspond with a Nars lip product you already have or want to buy. If you go to the Nars Cosmetics website and choose a product it will show other products that work well with it. I know there are cheaper dupes for a lot of products, but I’m also a fan of taking the guesswork out of make-up buying. I like having products that I feel were made to work together so I know that I’m going to replace my older Nars Lip Glosses with the new ones to go with lipsticks I already own.

Have you tried a new Nars Cosmetics Lip Gloss? How do you think it compares to the old formula?

Nars Cosmetics Lip Gloss retails for $26 and is available at narscosmetics.com, and wherever Nars Cosmetics are sold.

Love, Love, Love: Exumas Matte Multiple Review

The Nars Matte Multiples are turning into one of my favorite products. I picked it up Exumas last week but held off on testing it because I’ve been in a funk lately. Since that little cloud has passed I decided to check it out. BTW it feels good to be wearing some make-up.

NARS Matte Multiple - Exumas
Exumas Matte Multiple

Exumas is described as a pink apricot. I currently have Siam and Laos(Review and swatches) and this one is just as pretty. The Matte Mulitple can be used wet or dry and on the lips or cheeks. It’s easy to work with and you don’t need a lot to get the job done.

NARS Cosmetics Laos Matte Multiple Review

Nars Cosmetics Laos Matte Multiple Review

Francois Nars is my patronus. Ok, seriously, Nars Cosmetics is one my holy grail brands. I haven’t tried everything, but what I have tried I love. So after seeing swatches and reviews of their new Matte Multiple I knew I had to have at least one or two. I snagged a couple a day ago, tried them on, and I’m in love.

The Multiple is a multi-purpose cream product that you can put it on your lips or cheeks. There are already 18 Multiples that have a shimmer finish and now 7 Matte Multiples. I chose Siam, a gorgeous poppy red and Laos, an equally gorgeous rose coral. For the purpose of this post though I’m only going to talk about Laos.

The Matte Multiple is easy to use. I used my fingers to apply and it blended easily. I may have blended it out too much at first because what I saw in the mirror wasn’t necessarily transferring to my photos. So keep that in mind. I also used it on my lips. I didn’t have any problems with the product itself but my bottom lip’s natural color is pretty close to the color of Laos so it wasn’t that drastic of a change. I ended up putting lip gloss on top of it and it looked better.

This retails for $39 but I think it’s worth it because a little goes a long way. I think if I hadn’t blended it so much I might have got the look I wanted with a couple of fingertip swipes on the top.

So have you tried the Nars Matte Multiple? What color do you have your eye on?

The Nars Matte Multiple is available where Nars Cosmetics are sold and online
